For as long as I can remember, I always converted the images that captured my attention into paintings in my mind. Themes for my art emerge from my connectedness with nature, its subtleties and small surprises, as well as my fascination with, amusement at, and appreciation of the complexities of the human soul and spirit, which evidence themselves in facial expressions, gestures and charming little encounters.

Sometimes I plan a piece carefully, draw it on canvas to scale, and paint it in an orderly, planned manner. At other times I begin with a free, intuitive under painting of washes, collage, textures, runs and drips, over which I then draw and paint the subject, allowing the under-painting to dictate and show through in areas. Using tools like ear buds, credit cards and brayers free me from the inhibitions of a brush and create the type of marks that inspire me. I find exploring colours and textures in this way intensely satisfying. Being a perfectionist, as well as a lover of non-figurative abstraction and expression, creates a dichotomy that demands exploration and growth and yields a versatility of expression. I am still in the process of marrying the more realistic portrayal of my enchantment with the world around me to the process of expressing the world within - it remains an adventure.
